Officers responded to the 8100 block of Maryland Tuesday afternoon for a delayed fraud report. During a busy sales period Saturday afternoon, an employee witnessed a man exiting the "employees only" area. The employee questioned the man, who stated he had mistakenly entered the business & meant to enter the store next door. She explained the "employees only" area connects directly to the store's rear door & is where employees store their belongings & wrap purchases.
Later that afternoon, the owner began receiving emails from her credit card companies alerting her to fraudulent charges. When she checked her purse, she discovered four of her credit/debit cards were missing. After reviewing her accounts, she learned the cards had been fraudulently used to make nearly $1,000 in purchases at nearby businesses. The investigation is ongoing.
A local restaurant fired a woman Tuesday evening. Instead of leaving peacefully, she kicked her manager's car, denting it. Then she retrieved a golf club from her vehicle & used it to damage restaurant property & threatened to assault her former co-workers. The woman was gone before officers arrived.
Wednesday afternoon, a resident reported his personal information had been used to open a credit card in his name. While looking into the matter, he learned someone had made three other attempts to secure personal loans in his name. He has disputed the transactions & filed fraud reports with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) https://www.ic3.gov/ & the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/?pid=A.
A resident of the 6600 block of Alamo was in for a shock Thursday night when she went to check on her roommate. Instead of seeing the roommate, she came face-to-face with an unknown man who was holding her television. She screamed & the man ran to the front door, leaving a ski mask behind. He was last seen driving from the area in a newer dark gray Dodge Charger. The investigation is ongoing.
While patrolling the area of 900 Francis Pl. Friday night, a CPD officer noticed several subjects congregated around a car in the lower-level parking garage of 950 Francis Pl. As the officer approached, they ran toward Brentwood Blvd. Three juveniles remained in the vehicle. Inside the car & in plain view, the officer noticed four cases of alcohol. Also recovered was a backpack filled with alcohol & a fraudulent Missouri ID. The juveniles were charged with being minors in possession of alcohol & possession of the fake ID. They were released to the care of their guardians. This report will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Family Court for review.
Saturday morning, a man was meeting with a client in the 200 block of S. Bemiston when he heard a noise coming from one of the rooms within the suite. While investigating the noise, he found a man rummaging through desk drawers. He confronted the man who claimed he was at the office for a therapy session. After confirming there was no record of the man having an appointment, he asked the man to leave & he complied.
Finally, Walgreens employees contacted the CPD Sunday afternoon after discovering a fraudulent transaction. Saturday, a man purchased two $500 gift cards & 2 greeting cards. While completing the transaction, he purposely confused the cashier by paying for the greeting cards & the gift cards with multiple forms of payment & instructing the cashier on how to run the charges. Employees later realized the confusion resulted in a $1,000 cash shortage at the register.
