CLAYTON, MO — The City of Clayton will hold a general municipal election on Tuesday, April 3 of next year. Three aldermen will be on the ballot, one from each ward, and each will be elected to serve a three-year term. Candidates may begin filing to run for the positions as early as today, Dec. 12, and may continue to file with the city clerk through close of business on Jan. 16, 2018.
The city clerk's office is located at 10 N. Bemiston Ave. in downtown Clayton, and candidates will be listed on the ballot in the order in which they are filed. To run for alderman, a candidate must be at least 25 years old and a qualified Missouri voter. He or she must also have been a resident of Clayton for at least two years immediately prior to the election and must live in the ward they represent. Aldermen also can't hold other city positions during their terms.
Local government is one of our passions, so if you're running for alderman, let Patch know. We'll be trying to interview as many candidates for local office as we can before the election.
