Groundbreaking Tonight for Veterans Memorial

The event at The Heights is open to the public.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Mid- County Veterans Memorial will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, on the front lawn of THE HEIGHTS, 8001 Dale Ave., in Richmond Heights.

Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion and residents from the mid-St Louis County area are encouraged to attend the ceremony.

  • The US TRANSCOM Joint Service Color Guard will provide military branch flags. They will also provide U.S. and Missouri flag posting and retrieval.
  • The City of Richmond Heights will provide a KIA/MIA flag for pre-posting.
  • The MRH High School will provide a Missouri State Qualifier Trumpet player to perform Taps .
  • The Salvation Army will provide a bugler for the ceremony.
  • The St Louis County Police Pipe and Drum Corp will perform 

The Municipal Parks Grant Commission of St. Louis County awarded a $249,993 grant to the cities of Frontenac and Richmond Heights for the project.

The Veterans Memorial Committee, a nonprofit group established to spearhead the memorial project, must contribute $100,000 in matching funds. So far, the committee has raised about $52,500 in donations.

Once construction is finished, the memorial will be officially dedicated this Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
