Heritage Building Renovated for Clayton Police, IT Departments

A dedication ceremony on Saturday highlighted many of the building's upgrades.

Law enforcement officers in Clayton will soon have access to newer technology and more space as renovations conclude at the Heritage Building.

City officials held a dedication ceremony on Saturday at the building, which the city purchased in 2010 after residents approved a property tax increase. The Heritage Building, located at 10 S. Brentwood Boulevard, will host the city's police and IT departments, and has space available for other agencies in the future.

The $25.2 million facility is 75 percent larger than the previous building, notes a news release from the city.

“This has been a remarkable project because the city was able to provide a state-of-the-art facility for our police officers that they desperately needed to keep up with the public’s expectations of remaining a safe community,” stated Mayor Linda Goldstein in the news release. “Public safety always comes first in Clayton.”

Upgrades included a 120-space garage and a fitness gym for officers. New fitness equipment was donated by Centene Corporation in Clayton, the news release notes.

The new police station has “improved technology that creates a more secure building with advanced holding areas for prisoners, better evidence handling capability and greater internal security for those who work or visit the department," stated Thomas Byrne, chief of the Clayton Police Department, in the release.

The municipal court also will move to the renovated building from Clayton City Hall.
