Meeting Highlights: Backyard Chickens Approved in 7-2 Vote

7:50 P.M.: District 3 Councilwoman Gina Mitten said she will abstain from voting on the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District resolution because she doesn't think she has enough information on the issue.

District 1 Councilman Paul Lore said he has traveled on the Mississippi and Missouri rivers and has seen the damage caused by leaking sewage.

The resolution passed with six votes in favor of the measure. Lore and Notter opposed it.

The council is preparing to go into closed session. Jones reminded the audience that will be presented Thursday during an open house at The Heights community center.

7:48 P.M.: The council unanimously reappointed two people to the city's police and fire retirement fund.

7:46 P.M.: District 3 Councilman Ed Notter again moved to table the chickens bill, but the motion failed by a 5-4 vote. The chickens bill has been approved by a 7-2 vote. Notter and District 2 Councilman Mike Jones opposed the ordinance.

7:44 P.M.: The council unanimously has approved a bill for a .

7:41 P.M.: Richmond Heights resident asked what is being done to landscape and beautify the garage.

Nothing has been done yet on that front, but Mullenix will work with the city, the representative said.

7:37 P.M.: A representative with Mullenix Richmond Heights Redevelopment Corporation is describing how funds would be allocated for development planned at Brentwood Boulevard and Clayton Road.

More than $5 million of work is planned, including $2.4 million in site preparation and improvements, the representative said. It would be paid for by forming a Community Improvement District (CID) with a sales tax of up to 1 percent. Mullenix also is looking to partner with the city on a Transportation Development District that would also be used to fund work with a sales tax of up to 1 percent.
