New Drive-Through Regulations in Clayton

The Clayton City Council approved new guidelines for drive-throughs in the downtown district, limiting the number of lanes allowed to two.

The new standards were approved Tuesday and apply to all new drive-through facilities and redevelopment projects.

The new guidelines for drive-throughs include:

  • A landscape buffer of at least 15 feet wide will be developed for property which abuts residential land use, unless a noise study suggests one of 8 feee will address the issue.
  • Locate the access point away from street intersections
  • Provide direct pedestrian routes from public streets and sidewalks.
The facilities also need to provide room for stacking lanes for vehicles waiting for drive-through services. The stacking lane cannot wrap around the building.
