Rain Gardens Planned on Three Richmond Heights Streets

The systems aimed at improving water quality and stormwater management are planned for Bennett and Moorlands avenues, along with Weston Place. Residents interested in learning more can attend an open house this week at The Heights.

Rain gardens intended to help improve water quality and stormwater management in are planned on three city streets.

The bio-retention systems would be located on Bennett Avenue, Weston Place and Moorlands Avenue at Gissler Avenue, the city's website states. Construction is expected to begin as early as this fall.

Residents are invited to learn more about the project during an open house at 7 p.m. Thursday at community center.

Shrewsbury-based is handling the design portion of the effort using grant money obtained through the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Richmond Heights is part of the garden's Deer Creek Watershed Alliance, which aims to improve water quality and management throughout the area.

Another open house is planned at 7 p.m. June 14 at City Hall, where residents will be able to review the final rain garden designs. Those designs will then be submitted to the natural resources department, the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District.

Construction will begin when grant funding becomes available.
