Report: Feds Offer Deal in National Prearranged Services Case
The Clayton business sold prearranged funeral packages.

Five people charged in connection with a pre-arranged funeral scam at a Clayton business could avoid life in prison by taking a plea deal.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a "lawyer and two men who once helped run National Prearranged Services Inc. of Clayton were offered between five years and nearly 10 years in prison if they plead guilty."
National Prearranged Services, Inc., headquartered in Clayton, sold prearranged funeral services in 19 states. According to a press release from the FBI, customers either purchased prearranged funeral services directly from National Prearranged Services, or from funeral homes who in turn purchased these services from National Prearranged Services.

The said the scam affected up to 150,000 customers who paid up to $10,000 each, the Post reports, and could eventually cost $450 to $600 million.
