Discrimination Bill to Get Vote in Richmond Heights

Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity would be prohibited under a proposed Richmond Heights bill.
City Council discussed the measure at its meeting Monday but decided to hold a final vote until March 19, City Manager Amy Hamilton said. The legislation was .
While the bill originally included language related to age-restricted housing, staff removed it at the request of the council. In its present form, the bill solely includes protections for sexual orientation and gender identity, Hamilton said. The city already prohibits discrimination on the basis of age, gender and national origin.
If the measure is approved, Richmond Heights would join the St. Louis-area municipalities of , University City and Olivette in adopting such protections. The also has adopted a similar measure.
No such law exists at the Missouri or federal level.
At this time, the city is not considering the formation of a domestic partnership registry, Hamilton said.
