2012 De Smet Jesuit Soccer Preview: 'New Team, New Year'
The Spartans, defending state champions, will be without the services of Brian Hail, the Post-Dispatch Player of the Year, who has opted to play with the Scott Gallagher Soccer Academy.

But a new season is just that, a new season. Vitello has been outspoken about his intent to coach the players who tried out this fall, referring to the loss of some of the area's elite soccer talent to the Academy ranks following a much-debated move by USA Soccer to develop players away from the number of games played in the prep ranks.
Among players who have decided to go that route is who otherwise would be a senior fixture for the Spartans.

In an email exchange with Patch this week, Vitello said "New team- new year. Last year is in the past. Need to focus on what is ahead." He described this fall's squad as inexperienced but willing to work hard to meet goals.
