Barnes Jewish Hospital and Mercy St. Louis: No Ties To Fungal Meningitis Case

A steroid manufacturer in Massachusetts is now under investigation by the Food and Drug Administration.

At least fifteen states, from Texas to Idaho now report cases of fugal meningitis, believed to be connected to steroid shots to treat back pain, the Associated Press reports.

There are no cases tied to the state of Missouri.

The shots, manufactured byΒ New England Compounding Center in Massacusetts, have been the subject of a voluntary recall, according to the Centers For Disease Control, along with any other products compounded or distributed by the company's facility in Framingham, Mass.

As of Tuesday, there have been more than 230 injuries and 15 deaths reported natonwide. Tuesday afternoon, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the Washington University School of Medicine announced that neither agency has purchased any product from NECC.

AΒ Mercy Hospital St. LouisΒ spokeswoman said Tuesday a check system-wide ranging back to 2006 found no purchase of the NECC product in question.
