Creve Coeur Kids Write About A World Without Trees

More than 100 elementary school students entered the 's annual essay contest to recognize Arbor Day, and on Saturday, the third, second and first place winners from three categories in kindgergarten through fifth grade were honored in City Council chambers.

Here's a sample of their thoughts on "A World Without Trees": 

Jared Morton,  

"No paper airplanes, origami, books, toilet paper, kleenex and many more things;" "What would a woodpecker peck on?"

Ben Cummings,

"What would I do without my cousin's trees, all the trips I took to the apple orchard during the fall and what would my family decorate with lights during Christmas. I have so many connections to trees, that losing them would have such a great effect on me personally."

Surya Jaladi, Bellerive Elementary School

"Eventually the earth will be a whole different world and might turn out to be like Mars, red, hot and without any light."

"You could use another tool to write or draw, but nothing to draw on."

Ria Mirchandani,

"Trees give us so much while taking up so little. A tiny seed is all it takes to grow a mighty tree"

We wouldn't have houses without trees. If we didn't have houses, where would people live? Would the live on the street?

Ovya Diwakaran, Andrews Academy

"I would be sad because there would be no fruit, no paper, no birds nests, no squirrels, no leaves no seasons, no shade. I would miss trees."
