Creve Coeur Police: 'Just That Time of Year For Car Break-ins'

Authorities are investigating a string of 18 cases in one night. At least one person is in custody.

There is a time for every season, and apparently, we're knee-deep in a period known for car break-ins.

are investigating roughly 20 cases within the last week alone, with 18 reported on the same day.

The cases were all called in during the morning of June 19. Ten of them alone came from the Mariners Point Court neighborhood, four in the Ferngate Lane area where cars were unlocked, Two in Bellerive Estates Drive, including a case where a woman reported that someone had attempted to steal an in-car computer from a taxicab in the area. There were also single reports of car break-ins on Bellerive Farm and Fernway.

Captain George Hodak said the 18 cases were related and that as of Tuesday afternoon, one person was in custody with two others identified but still wanted.

"It’s just that time of year for car break-ins, Capt. Hodak wrote via email. "We’ve been β€˜lucky’ for far this year that we haven’t been hit harder."
