Creve Coeur Police Warn Of Boston Marathon Donation Scams

Don't let your desire to help the victims of last week's bombing in Boston turn you into a victim of cybercrime.

The Creve Coeur Police Department released the following warning this week:

Internet watch groups and cyber security experts have already identified multiple fake domains and websites taking advantage of the Boston Marathon bombing. Internet users need to have a critical eye before clicking links, visiting websites, or making donations.

Do not go to unfamiliar websites to view the event or information regarding it.

Never send sensitive information over the Internet before checking the website’s security and confirming its legitimacy.

Be cautious of emails/websites that claim to provide information because they may contain viruses.

Do not open spam emails, or click on the links/attachments contained in those messages.

Never reveal personal or financial information in the email.

If you have any questions regarding the above information, please contact the Creve Coeur Crime Prevention office at 314-442-2075 or email at gfico@ci.creve-coeur.mo.us
