Ladue Wins 11 of 12 Pool Events Over Lindbergh Flyers

Eudal Swimmers ready to score in the state meet next month.

High school students are known for different things. It could be the track star, or the actress, or the class president.

Senior Maddie Wall will forever be known at as The swimmer.

Wall has taken the Eudal swimmers to new heights. She has forged her name onto the swim display board in the hallway and into the record books.

Ladue won 11 of 12 events and racked up a 106-78 victory over the Lindbergh Flyers. Wall had her name attached to four first place finishes in the dual meet.

Wall was first in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:59.48; first in the lengthy 500 yard freestyle in 5:24.81; and anchored the the first-place 200 yard freestyle relay (1:49.12) and the 400 yard freestyle relay in 3:52.22. In both relays, when she got to the starting blocks, she was several seconds behind first place when launching into the pool.

Wall is the champion in the pool. The further the lead, the harder she swims. She will be a major point getter in the state swim meet the third week of February. No doubt about it.

Others did very well. Senior Etinosa Ogbevoen won the 50 yard freestyle in 25.84 and first in the 100 yard freestyle in 57.49 and swam leadoff on the 200 yard freestyle relay and second on the 300 yard freestyle relay.

Steady Helen You had a good meet. She won the 200 yard individual medlay in 2:27.51 and on two relays. Riley Merdinian won the 100 yard backstroke in 1:08.21. Rebecca Schachtman was first in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:17.97.

Cassandra Eads won diving with 126.70 points.

Trish Garvey, swim coach for Ladue was ecstatic. β€œWe are swimming very well this year. The girls on this team have a very good work ethic. They swim very hard and we are hopeful of having five individuals and three relays in the state meet. We’ve already qualified two of this three relays.”

There’s little time for rest for these swimmers. They will be in the Rockwood Summit eight team Invitational Wednesday and Thursday.
