Letter From The Principal: 'Doing the right thing even when no one is looking.'

Craig Elementary Principal Nicole Evans writes about integrity this week.

Dear Craig Families,

During our monthly Buddy Days, we have focused on various character traits, service learning projects and the building of positive relationships across grade levels. Last Friday, we all focused on understanding and creating a common definition of the characterΒ  trait --- Integrity.

As a school, we are defining Integrity as, "Doing the right thing even when no one is looking." This is one of the most difficult character traits to understand and display for both adults and children. It is about making the right decision under a trying and sometimes tempting situation. It is about doing good deeds without looking for praise, recognition or reward, but just because it is the right thing to do.Β

We live in a time where many people expect rewards and thrive for personal recognition for everything. Rewards, praise and recognition all have their place and can be great when building self-esteem. Here at Craig, we are forming our future citizens and we want to challenge you to be our partners in molding children with character.

Please discuss integrity with your child and highlight and exemplify integrity in your daily life. Our students should see acts such as holding a door open for someone with full hands, returning an item that does not belong to you, and listening to that "quiet voice" that says this is the wrong or right thing to do.
