Update: Major League baseball has postoned Wednesday's Tigers-Yankees game due to weather conditions in Detroit until Thursday afternoon. Max Scherzer will take the mound Wednesday night in Detroit as he looks to guide the Tigers to the franchise's second World Series appearance in since 2006. Detroit took a commanding 3-0 lead in their best of seven game American League Championship Series with a 2-1 home win over the New York Yankees Tuesday night. Scherzer, a Parkway Central graduate who later went on to star at the University of Missouri before being a first round draft choice of the Arizona Diamondbacks, was traded to Detroit in 2009 in a three-team deal that also involved the Yankees. Scherzer has battled personal tragedy and later shoulder weakness in a 2012 season that saw him emerge as one of the American League's best strikeout pitchers. <a href="http://www.freep.com/article/20121017/SPORTS02/310170095/Back-to-the-Max-" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The Detroit Free Press </a>talked with him Tuesday, about getting ready for the Wednesday night start. And if the Tigers do advance to the World Series, and if the Cardinals do the same, Scherzer could find himself pitching on baseball's biggest stage against his hometown team in Game 2 one week from Thursday.
