Mayor-Elect Barry Glantz: 'It’s A Great Night. There’s No Other Way To Describe It.'

Barry Glantz received some text messages late Tuesday night, heard a shriek of delight from his daughter, and then reacted when Patch confirmed his election as the next Mayor of Creve Couer.

"Wow. Wow. That's pretty incredible," he said by phone from his home, where friends and family had gathered for the evening.

Glantz defeated Laura Bryant by a count of 2,174 (56.25 percent) to 1,685 (43.60 percent) in a contest matching two former city council and planning and zoning board members. Glantz said he was cautiously optimistic throughout the day but that the margin of victory was greater than anticipated.

In an email to Patch late Tuesday, Bryant said, "I ran for good government and clean campaigning, and unfortunately those ideals did not resonate with enough Creve Coeur voters. I wish Barry the best of luck as our new mayor."

MOVING FORWARD

Glantz said Bryant had called to offer congratulations, and he admitted that a campaign with "zealous" supporters on both sides left him with some work to do.

"I need to be responsible for some healing and moving forward and making sure that our city is inclusive and that people feel good or feel better moving forward. That’s the unfortunate part of any political campaign," he said from his porch as supporters headed home for the night.

The final days of the race saw a mailer and mass email critical of Bryant sent out to voters from outside his campaign. He maintained Tuesday that he had nothing to do with them personally, didn't condone them and went as far as to say "There’s part of me that wants to apologize for that." 

Glantz said he knows there will be skeptics, and some people he'll never be able to convince, but at the end of the day, the voters have spoken.

"We did something right," he said.
