Meredith Ousts McCreery in 71st House Race Democratic Primary

Sue Meredith, a former member of the Ritenour School District Board of Education, defeated Tracy McCreery of Olivette in the Democratic party primary for the newly-formed 71st Missouri House of Representatives district.

Meredith received 1,422 votes (52.52 percent) while McCreery received with 1,186 votes (45.48 percent).

Patch was unable to reach Meredith for the winner's remarks. The primary win assures her a seat in the state legislature next January, with no other party fielding a candidate for November.

This is what McCreery had to say in defeat.

"In my campaign as in my tenure as State Representative, I did what was best for my constituents and for the district. I ran a campaign I am proud of – I did not stray from my principles and focused on my record and the issues we all care about.

My team and myself worked hard, and I would not have done everything differently. Democracy is a lesson in humility and in the end, the decision always belongs to the voters. There is plenty of good work to do in our community and this is by no means the end of my involvement or my passion for improving our district.

I wish the Representative-elect for District 71 luck in the coming year."

McCreery served one year after winning a special election. The new District 71 includes Olivette, Overland, Maryland Heights and a portion of Creve Coeur.
