MoDOT's St. Louis Maintenance Engineer Becky Allmeroth told Patch that the I-64 closure was already an hour in progress at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Allmeroth said the weather event has played out "almost exactly" as was expected, although there has been more accumulations of snow. She added that major arterials should be cleared in time for the Friday morning commute.
Forecasts do call for overnight freezing drizzle which could continue to complicate road conditions.
Allmeroth urged anyone needing to decide on travel Friday morning to consult www.modot.org to monitor conditions and for those who are in their vehicles to stay there instead of ditching them on the highway. She suggested attaching something red to the outside to draw attention.
