CBC Gets Ahead Early, Wins District Baseball Title

Cadet Pitcher Dan Herrmann held Parkway North hitless until the third inning.

Parkway North may have been the number one seed in the district four baseball playoff tournament which concluded Wednesday on the Vikings' campus, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a much better team coming down the stretch than the CBC Cadets, who won 8 eight of their last nine heading into the title game against Parkway North.

Wednesday, the Cadets got to North pitcher Joe Hope early and chased the Sophomore after taking a 5-0 second inning lead behind two early RBI by CBC's Bobby Lang en route to an 11-6 win. The Cadets got five innings from starter Dan Herrmann, who didn't give up a hit until an Ellis Brodsky single in the third inning.

The Parkway North (20-6) bench complained about getting squeezed in the strike zone early, but shaky defense in the field also allowed CBC to grab extra bases which turned into runs and padded an early advantage.

North loses several key players to graduation in first baseman Andy Huss, outfielder-pitcher Jon Shanker, pitcher Connor Ladig and second baseman Daniel Brodsky, but figures to return a strong rotation once again anchored by Hope and Joey Reeves with catcher Garrett Taylor behind the plate.

CBC (19-8) advances to face District 3 champion Eureka at Eureka next Tuesday. The Wildcats (17-8) defeated Marquette Tuesday night for a spot in sectionals. A win in sectional play could set up a Metro Catholic Conference clash with Vianney in the state quarterfinal.
