He goes by DJ, now, as opposed to Darrell, but regardless, DJ Johnson appears to have gone from being a redshirt candidate in his freshman season on the Kansas State Wildcat basketball program to being a factor now. Johnson, the 2012 Parkway North graduate, saw action Tuesday in an 81-61 exhibition win against Washburn, netting 10 points and 7 rebounds in 17 minutes on the floor. "He's pushing everybody," new Kansas State Head Basketball Coach Bruce Weber told reporters after the game. "I'm not sure he always knows what he's doing, but he plays hard all the time." Weber added in his postame remarks that at some point there had been consideration given to redshirting Johnson, a 6-8 forward who is the least experienced frontcourt player on the Wildcat roster. Tom Gilbert, a K-State athletic department spokesman, told Patch Wednesday via email that he highly doubted that would happen at this point. Johnson and the Wildcats take on Emporia State Sunday afternoon.
