St. Monica's Making Post-Newtown Security Changes

The parish school conducted a review of security protocols following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT in December.

Father John Brennell, pastor at St. Monica Catholic Church in Creve Coeur used the most recent weekend bulletin to tell his congregation that the church had reviewed security measures in place for the parish school with the help of police, security firms and others. It was done in the wake of the mass shooting that killed 26 people in Newtown, Connecticut at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

"The recommendations range from reworking the main school doors so that they can be monitored and a buzzer system can be installed to making sure that doors throughout the building are alarmed should they be inadvertently left open," Fr. Brennell wrote.

While a bid has been accepted to start work, the parish is now trying to raise the $14,000 necessary to cover the cost of improvements.
