Celebration Continues for Eureka's State Championship Team

The celebration is continuing for the Eureka High School girls soccer team, who will be recognized for bringing home the Class 3 state championship trophy by the city’s board of aldermen at a meeting tonight.

With a stellar 22-1-1 record overall, the Wildcats earned a bid at the state title after beating Nixa 4-0 in the semifinal. They then hung on to take down St. Teresa’s 2-1 at the state championship June 1 at Blue Springs South High School, located in a Kansas City suburb.

The board of aldermen plans to honor the state champions with a proclamation Tuesday. The recognition adds to a celebration that began when the team’s supporters held a welcome home rally at around 11:30 p.m. in Eureka on the night of the championship.

In addition, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch recently profiled one of the senior leaders on the Wildcats, naming Hannah Leinert the paper’s All-Metro Player of the Year. The article described the 5-foot-8 striker as “the most lethal weapon on the pitch” who came through at crucial moments during Eureka’s successful title run.
