Commemorating National Peace Officers Memorial Day

It's a day to recognize law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Are you doing anything to honor fallen officers?

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund website, May 15 was proclaimed National Peace Officers Memorial Day by President John F. Kennedy. It takes place during National Police Week, which was reported established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962. It's a time meant to recognize police who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The St. Louis County Police’s Wildwood precinct marked the occasion by participating in the force’s 36th annual Uniform Day Memorial Celebration at Memorial Park in Clayton last Friday.

The solemn ceremony honored the lives of those who have died in the line of duty with a roll call of the deceased and 16-volley shotgun salute. All commission officers who attended wore their full dress uniforms in a show of solidarity.
