Eureka Police Issue 18 Traffic Tickets During DWI Crackdown
The 2012 Holiday DWI Enforcement campaign took place Dec. 10 β 16.

Eureka police have released the results of their six-day crackdown on impaired drivers.
During the 2012 Holiday DWI Enforcement Campaign, officers issued one ticket for driving while intoxicated; four speeding tickets; a safety belt ticket and 12 other tickets for various violations.
Eureka Police Chief Michael Wiegand said removing even one drunk driver from the streets is a positive result.

βWhen we remove a drunk driver from the roads, weβre all safer,β Wiegand said in a news release. βLaw enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make a simple, smart choice to drive sober.β
Driving while intoxicated remains one of the top causes of fatal car crashes in Missouri, according to a Eureka Police news release. In 2011, 234 people were killed and 945 seriously injured in crashes involving an impaired driver.
