Eureka Police Taking Part in Sobriety Checkpoints During Fourth of July Weekend
The extra enforcement will take place between July 3 and July 7.

Eureka Police will be joining up with otherΒ Missouri law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunk driving during the Fourth of July weekend.Β
Eureka Police will be taking part in statewide sobriety checkpoints and DWI saturation patrols enforcing Missouriβs DWI laws and keeping impaired drivers off the road. The extra enforcement will take place between July 3 and July 7.Β
Drunken driving can result inΒ jail time, the loss of a driver's license,Β or being sentenced to use ignition interlocks. Insurance rates also can rise, along with legal fees.Β

Missouri has a zero tolerance law for impaired driving. If drivers are under the legal drinking age of 21, their license will be suspended if they're caught driving with even a trace of alcohol in their system.
In 2012, 244 people were killed and 885 seriously injured inΒ crashes involving an impaired driver. Β Thatβs why Eureka Police Department will join otherΒβDriving drunk is simply not worth all the consequences,β Eureka PoliceΒ Chief Michael Wiegand said in a release.Β
