Eureka's Summertime Concert Series Praised, Criticized

Eureka held it’s second “Concert on Central” event last Friday and the city-sponsored summertime get-together is generating praise – and a little criticism.

In a recent post on Patch, resident Steve Grzyb complimented the efficient organization of the concert, which involves shutting down a portion of Central Avenue, putting up signs, erecting a stage and setting up restrooms.

“It takes a lot of people, great organization, time and money to make it all happen,” he said.

He described it as becoming a kind of homecoming that attracts people who went to the school area or use to live in Eureka while also drawing in people from surrounding communities.

However, Grzyb’s opinion drew out an opposite response from Patch user Babbs. In particular, she said its size is becoming an inconvenience and would like to see it moved off the street and into one of the city parks.

“What this event bring is a bunch of young kids that hang out on the streets that are not blocked off and that will not move out of the street,” she said.

There are two more Concerts on Central events left, which are being held monthly throughout the summer. The New Wave is playing July 19 and The Dusty Brothers will perform Aug. 16.
