Firehouse Subs Shop Launched by Wildwood Couple

Owners of the new Firehouse Subs eatery opening Tuesday in Chesterfield took their fire theme seriously—the new restaurant is decorated with Monarch Fire Protection District photos and memorabilia.

Furthermore, franchise owner Robert Phillips designed his locally-themed mural inside the shop to include a Monarch fire truck, as well as Busch Stadium, St. Louis Cardinal Ozzie Smith, and references to the (a firehose blasting a Detroit Tiger!) 

Phillips, and his wife, Lisa, are residents. He said he had been working to clinch a franchise with Firehouse Subs for about five years. He hopes to spread more around the area. There are about 500 Firehouse Subs shops nationwide.

The new eatery is located off of Clarkson Road in the Trader Joes shopping center, just west of Highway 40.

Actual firefighters are qualified for free drinks anytime at Firehouse Subs,  Phillips said. The oversized sandwiches, made with steam-heated foods, are reportedly quite tasty. Two firefighting Sorensen brothers started the shops in 1994, in Jacksonville, FL.

Saturday, training was going on within the store. Phillips said he is still hiring.

The shop has drinks dispensed from a state-of-the-art . It can provide some 120 combinations of drinks, according to the shop's website.

Child-sized subs' portions come with a plastic fire hat.
