Multi-County Police Chase Ends With Shootout In Eureka

A person who fled a traffic stop was reportedly wanted in several states before being stopped in Eureka.

Law enforcement units from throughout the region converged on an area in Eureka Friday afternoon after a police chase that began in Franklin County ended in St. Louis County.

Patch's news partner FOX2 reports that authorities pulled over a car in a traffic stop on I-44 in Franklin County, but that a man in the vehicle pulled out a gun and took off.

The chase which ensued ended in a Eureka subdivision with a bullet-riddled car stopped onΒ Williams road South of Augustine in Eureka, the station reported.Β

KSDK-TV reports that the person in the car was wanted in "several states."

The chase also caused the Rockwood School District to place all schools under a brief "modified lockdown" from around 1:30-1:45 p.m. The district was instructed to take the action by the Eureka Police Department, who said they wereΒ in pursuit of an armed suspect in an area subdivision.Β Β

A staff member for West Newsmagazine was at his home in Eureka when the chase took place and reporting hearing 15-20 shots fired.

According to the same article, a spokesperson for the Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed that a shootout took place and that the suspect was injured.Β
