Man Charged With Manslaughter in Truck Driver's Death

A man was charged with involuntary manslaughter after a drunk-driving accident on Interstate 44 near Eureka caused a truck driver to swerve and overturn.

The truck driver, Joshua Sanders, 34, of Rolla, was killed while trying to avoid striking the car stopped on the roadway in dense fog, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol report.

Matthew Snyders, 44, of the 1400 block of South Elm Street in Webster Groves, was charged Friday with involuntary manslaughter - driving while intoxicated.

A Missouri Highway Patrol trooper said Snyders hit a guardrail on westbound I-44 about a mile west of Six Flags about 4:55 a.m. Sept. 27. Snyders failed to maintain a single lane, according to the report. His car spun out and his 2007 Saturn Ion stopped on I-44 in dense fog, and Snyders got out of the car.

The truck then swerved to avoid Snyder’s car and overturned several times at about 5 a.m., according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

According to court documents, Snyder’s blood-alcohol content level was 0.167 percent after the crash, more than twice the legal limit. Later, his blood-alcohol content level measured at 0.184 percent.

Bail was set at $75,000 for Snyders.
