New Management Looking to Grow Wildwood Farmer's Market

The farmer's market will hold its first event of the summer season May 18 at Wildwood's Town Center Plaza.

When the Wildwood Farmer’s Market opens for the summer season this year, it will be under the guidance of new management that city officials hope can help boost its popularity.

George and Renee Sackett, managers of the nearby Ellisville Farmer’s Market, received the official blessing from the city council April 22 to take over the day-to-day operations of the event, scheduled for Saturdays starting May 18.

Began in 2009, the Wildwood Farmer’s Market has already had three management changes in its short history. The latest move is aimed at helping the market reach its β€œdesire potential,” according to a report from Wildwood Parks and Planning Director Joe Vujnich.

Vujnich said the city approached Rene Sackett after noting the excellent reviews she and her husband had received for their management of Ellisville’s farmer’s market. Similar to previous agreements, Sackett, operating under the name SOL Events and Catering, will receive a total of $16,500 in compensation.

The agreement also allows for the market to be extended into the winter season and held once a month at an indoor location. The fee structure will feature three tiers with vendors who choose to prepay for the entire season able to purchase a spot for $20 per week.

The new managers have also started a Facebook page for the Wildwood Farmer’s Market and wrote Wednesday that they were excited to take on the role and to grow the market.

β€œWe are looking to add new farmers and other vendors and create an inviting place for customers to browse, talk to farmers and other vendors and purchase local healthy foods and other products,” the post read.

The producer-only market will begin the season May 18 and will be open 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and is located in Wildwood Town Center on Fountain & Plaza Drive.Β
