Wildwood Elementary Kids Raise $725 for Tornado Victims
The students from Fairway Elementary set up a lemonade stand to raise funds for the victims of the Moore, Okla., tornado last week.
Four Fairway Elementary Students helped raise more than $725 for victims and families of the devastating tornado in Moore, Okla., earlier this month.
Brothers Ethan (3rd grade) and Noah Sage (1st grade) enlisted the help of fellow classmates and neighbors Grant Leonard and Riley Lewis and set up a lemonade stand May 20 at the corner of Nantucket Island and Old Fairway Drives.
Scores of generous motorists stopped and donated to the cause, but the most conspicuous of the vehicles to take notice was Engine Company 3344 from the Metro West Fire Protection District, according to a press release from the district.Β
βThese boys are terrific kids who really have a huge heart. They came up with this great idea on their own, and are so tremendously proud of what they have accomplished. We are happy to support a good cause and such tremendous young men,β said Capt. Mike Digman. Β
When asked the boys told the fire officials, βI had fun, and it was good to work with my brother,β said Noah. Both youngsters were shy when asked if what they were doing to help was heroic; but both acknowledged that anyone can step forward and make a difference.Β
The boys plan on forwarding the money to the Red Cross to assist with the relief efforts. Metro West Chief Vincent T. Loyal noted that it represented the way good can come in the wake of such tragedy. Β
βMetro West residents are among the most generous and caring people I know, and we are very proud of these fine young menβ Loyal said. Β
