9th annual Firehouse 5K for Autism to benefit Easterseals Midwest

Firehouse 5K and 2-mile walk will take place Saturday, April 2 at High Ridge Fire Station #1

Since the first race in 2011, the Firehouse 5K for Autism has raised more than $20,000 for local, autism-related charities.

Once again, the High Ridge Fire Protection District is lacing up their running shoes in support of local autism services. For their 9th annual Firehouse 5K and 2-mile walk, High Ridge Fire Protection District has chosen to donate proceeds from the event to Easterseals Midwest.

Easterseals Midwest is the largest provider of disability services in the Midwest, offering life-changing disability and community services to more than 5,000 people annually across Missouri, Kansas, and parts of Illinois.

β€œWe are always so thankful for the support that the High Ridge Fire Protection District and all who participate in the Firehouse 5K,” Wendy Sullivan, CEO of Easterseals Midwest, said. β€œTheir support allows us to continue to offer essential services to thousands across the Midwest. From early childhood intervention and diagnosis; to skill development and career exploration; to community living services later in life – we’re there for people with autism and other disabilities through every step of life.”

Since the first race in 2011, the Firehouse 5K for Autism has raised more than $20,000 for local, autism-related charities. From sponsoring scholarships for parents and children to attend Easterseals Midwest’s parent-training courses to building a playground through Thrive Autism
Solutions, the Firehouse 5K is a way for participants to make a positive impact on the lives of others in their community.

β€œWe’re excited to once again be able to host this event in person and get everyone together in the community,” John Barton, Captain with the High Ridge Fire Protection District, said. β€œThe High Ridge Fire District has close ties to our autism community, and we are proud to partner with Easterseals Midwest to help raise awareness and show support for individuals living on the autism spectrum.”

This year’s Firehouse 5K and 2-mile walk will take place Saturday, April 2 at High Ridge Fire Station #1. The top three male and female runners in each age category will receive awards, along with the top three overall runners. There will also be awards for the top three first responders.

If running isn’t your thing, there is also a 2-mile walking route. Refreshments will be available immediately after the race, with the award ceremony to follow.
