By the show of hands pictured, the 4th grade students of the Ridge Meadows Elementary School of the Rockwood R-VI School District enjoyed the "Colonial Day/Colonial Kitchen" trunk show presented by Nancy Hills, of the OLDE TOWNE FENTON Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR).

The DAR, founded in 1890 is a non-profit, nonpolitical volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through excellent education for children.

Developed primarily for the Kindergarten through 5th grade age group, the "Colonial Day/Colonial Kitchen" trunk show is presented in colonial costume to introduce the colonial kitchen. Included in the presentation are opportunities for the students to participate in fun activities, covering topics such as spices and herbs being ground with mortar and pestle, exploring multiple types of cinnamon, examples of how water was carried in cast iron dutch ovens from a distance, and why kitchens were separate buildings in colonial days.
