Florissant Native Robert Steeples Signs with Minnesota Vikings

The St. Louis Rams released Steeples in the preseason. He will now be a part of the Vikings practice squad. The Vikings also released Hazelwood native LaMark Brown.

Florissant nativeΒ Robert Steeples has a new NFL home.Β

Steeples is aΒ De Smet Jesuit graduate and aΒ former University of Missouri cornerback, who originally signed withΒ the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent.Β

He wasΒ releasedΒ in the preseason, and the cornerback who also played for the University of Memphis,Β was signed Wednesday to another team.

TheΒ Minnesota VikingsΒ want him on theirΒ practice squad.

Teams are allowed to keep a roster of eight practice players,Β who each make at least $6,000 per week. Players on practice squads are eligible to be signed to any other team's active roster, except in the case of their "team's upcoming opponent, unless they do so six days before the upcoming game or 10 days if their team is currently on a bye week,"Β according to The Bleacher Report.

One Vikings writer reports thatΒ Steeples will be issued the uniform number 26,Β most recently worn by Antoine Winfield, a veteran Vikings defensive back who recently retired.

Steeples would have played in Minnesota withΒ Hazelwood native LaMark Brown, a Hazelwood West High School graduate.

BrownΒ was a member of the Vikings practice squad up until a couple weeks ago.Β The Vikings released him on August 26, 2013, along with 12 others, to get to a 75 man roster. Brown is currently a free agent.

Brown was signed on as an undrafted free agentΒ wide receiverΒ with theΒ Atlanta FalconsΒ in 2012.Β He has also been a member of theΒ Buffalo Bills,Β Tampa Bay BuccaneersΒ andΒ Utah Blaze.

He played college football at Kansas State and Minnesota State,Β serving dual roles as aΒ wide receiver and running back.
