Karen McKay Awarded for Excellence in Cancer-Fighting Advocacy Work

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network said McKay has been a tireless volunteer and dedicated cancer advocate.

Karen McKay is more than a former Florissant Councilwoman who loves her city dearly. She isΒ also an avid volunteer for cancer causes.

She was recentlyΒ awarded ACT! Lead of the Year. The mention is for her volunteer and advocacyΒ work with theΒ American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) trying toΒ make cancer a national priority.

Each year, theΒ award is given to a lead congressional district volunteer, according to ACS CAN.

β€œKaren has been a tireless volunteer and dedicated cancer advocate of ACS CAN’s legislative priorities,” said Christopher W. Hansen, president of ACS CAN. β€œWe are grateful for Karen’s outstanding efforts to organize local volunteers and advocate for strong and effective cancer-fighting public policy in her community.”

Mckay leads the Ambassador Constituent Team (ACT!) in Congressional District 1 for ACS CAN.Β

ACS CAN isΒ the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society supporting evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem, according to it website.Β 

As the ACT! Lead, McKay serves as the primary volunteer contact with District 1 lawmakers. She is tasked with recruitingΒ and managing other local volunteers to lead district advocacy and fundraising efforts.

She is a longtime American Caner SocietyΒ volunteer, and servesΒ as a leader for local Relay For Life events. She has been an ACS CANΒ volunteer for more than 10 years.
