McCluer North Guidance Counselor Remembers Her Experiences with Oprah Winfrey Show

Sally Hunt is a lifelong Oprah watcher. She said she can remember enjoying the Oprah Winfrey Show as a child—and then becoming and even bigger fan in her teenage years.

Oprah Winfrey will host her final episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show Wednesday, after a quarter of a century hosting the program.

Hunt is a guidance counselor at . She’s excited for the final episode, and said she’s looking forward to seeing how Oprah will react emotionally. But Hunt doesn’t know what to expect from the series finale.

“I’m excited to see what it is,” Hunt said. “I guess it’s supposed to be a surprise, it sounds like.”

Hunt said her favorite moment from the television series was when Oprah’s half-sister appeared on the program.

“That woman (Oprah’s half-sister) seems to be so great and good to her (Oprah), and did not try to make money off her in any way or try to sell her story,” Hunt said.

Hunt holds Oprah's shows like that, with real people, high above those with celebrity interviews or Oprah's Favorite Things. She said she considers the episodes at their best when they showcase a person's trials and tribulations and how people turned around their lives for the better.

Lately, Oprah's final shows have been especially touching, Hunt said. One thing Hunt has always appreciated from Oprah is that she's in touch with her emotions and has no problem sharing those feelings with her audience.

Even though Oprah’s show won’t fill the airwaves anymore, Hunt said she doesn’t feel like she has a void to fill in her TV viewing schedule. She said she’ll probably watch the other shows she records on her DVR that she usually doesn’t have time for, like The Daily Show.

Oprah’s final show will air at 4 p.m. on KSDK.
