McCluer Student Takes Third Place in Congressional Art Competition

Devin Upchurch of McCluer High School came in third place for his photo entitled Sphere in the 2013 First Congressional District Artistic Discover competition.

Devin was amongst 50 student artists from area high schools that submitted entries and were selected to display them at a special exhibition at Portfolio Gallery in Grand Center. 

Parkway North High School student Madeline Green came in first place with her acrylic painting on canvass, entitled Night Out. It will be on display at the U.S. Capitol Complex in Washington, DC.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors the nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. 

This is the twelfth year Congressman Clay has conducted the competition in Missouri’s First Congressional District. 

Each winner is recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.
