McCluer Student Takes Third Place in Congressional Art Competition
Devin Upchurch was amongst 50 student artists that submitted entries, and were selected to display them at an exhibition at Portfolio Gallery in Grand Center.
Devin Upchurch ofΒ McCluer High SchoolΒ came in thirdΒ placeΒ for his photo entitled SphereΒ in theΒ 2013 First Congressional District Artistic Discover competition.
DevinΒ was amongstΒ 50 student artists from area high schools that submitted entries and were selected toΒ display themΒ at a special exhibition at Portfolio Gallery in Grand Center.Β
Parkway North High SchoolΒ student Madeline Green came inΒ first place with herΒ acrylic painting on canvass, entitledΒ Night Out.Β It will be on display at the U.S. Capitol Complex in Washington, DC.
Each spring, theΒ Congressional InstituteΒ sponsors the nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.Β
This is the twelfth year Congressman Clay has conducted the competition in Missouriβs First Congressional District.Β
Each winner isΒ recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.
