Duolingo takes over shuttered St. Louis Hooters location for corporate stunt (kvue.com) — Residents in Florissant have noticed eye-catching “Duolingo: Coming Soon” signs covering the old Hooters building on North Highway 67, sparking plenty of social media chatter. Duolingo calls the signage a temporary stunt tied to its owl mascot and won’t say if any real plans for the shuttered restaurant site are in the works. 
2. Play It Again Sports Roundup - Tuesday, Dec. 2-Friday, Dec. 5, 2025 (riverbender.com) — Gateway Legacy Christian of Florissant took a tough 52-17 road loss to Marquette Catholic, falling to 0-4 after being held to single digits each quarter. The broader roundup recaps boys and girls basketball and wrestling results from around the bi-state area, but the only direct Florissant tie is Gateway Legacy’s girls basketball game.
3. Illinois man pleads guilty in Missouri to stolen check scheme (kttn.com) — A multi-state stolen check scheme briefly hit Florissant when an Illinois man used a fake driver’s license to deposit a $36,373 stolen check at a local bank in December 2022. He has now pleaded guilty to federal bank fraud in St. Louis, with sentencing set for March 2026 and a potential decades-long prison term and heavy fines.
4. Former Missouri Police Chief Warns Drivers to Never, Ever Hand Cops Your Cell Phone (motorbiscuit.com) — Florissant residents are learning more about a former local officer who admitted in federal court to improperly accessing women’s phones during traffic stops, prompting a response from the Florissant Police Department distancing itself from his actions. Legal experts now urge drivers to never hand over their phones, instead showing digital insurance on-screen or keeping a paper copy, and to call 911 if an officer insists on taking a device without a warrant.
