Hazelwood Traffic: MoDOT To Close I-170 July 8-11 For Delmar Bridge Construction

Drivers will not be able to access interstate from Delmar during closure so those Hazelwood residents that travel for work, or any other means, should use an alternate route, MoDOT states.

If you travel Interstate 170 southbound towards the University City area for any purpose often, you might have to consider taking another route.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will close I-170 near the Delmar Boulevard Bridge starting at 7 p.m. Friday, July 8 to construct portions of the new bridge, according to a MoDOT statement.

All lanes of the interstate will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, July 11. Traffic on the interstate will be detoured up the ramps at Delmar and back onto the interstate while the roadway is closed.

Traffic on the interstate will not be able to access Delmar Boulevard during the closure, nor will traffic on Delmar be able to access I-170 in either direction.

According to the statement, detours are already marked, and drivers can use Price Road and Hanley Road to get to Olive Boulevard to access I-170.

Traffic levels on both the interstate and the detour routes are expected to be high, and according to the MoDOT statement, drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible or use other routes.

This work is part of a $2.1 million dollar project to replace the Delmar Boulevard Bridge. Although the bridge was already scheduled for replacement this year, MoDOT closed it April 25, after an inspection showed the bridge had become unsafe for public use.

Construction has been underway since May 20. The bridge is scheduled to reopen by September 1.
