Hazelwood Woman Faces Aiding Sex Offender, Witness Tampering Charges

Police said she denied that registered sex offender Paul Zerban lived in her Hazelwood home, helping him to elude officers.

A Hazelwood woman was arraigned Wednesday in St. Louis County Circuit Court on charges that she helped a sexual offender elude law enforcement, tampering with a witness and harassing a minor.

reported that Julie L. Whitworth, 42, of the 1900 block of Driftwood Trails in , gave false information to officers Dec. 29 when she told them that Paul Zerban, a registered sex offender, did not live with her.

Zerban has been charged with failing to register as a sex offender after moving out of his last residence.

When Zerban was arrested April 26 at her home, Whitworth screamed at neighbors who provided testimony, saying, “I’ll kill you,” according to the report.

One of the neighbors was less than 17 years old, police said.

Whitworth has a settlement conference hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
