In the five years Hazelwood City Councilwoman Mary Singleton has represented Ward 8, she has set herself apart leading Hazelwood's green initiatives.
She is a member of Hazelwood’s very young Green Committee, that launched in 2010, as well as an environmental enthusiast. Singleton also helped establish the city's Neighborhood Watch Program.
Her goals include continually keeping her constituents informed about what is important in Hazelwood. She said she does this by sending out a news email as well as hosting ward meetings.
She was originally elected to council on April 8, 2008 and re-elected April 5, 2011.
She previously told Hazelwood Patch she feels like she finally has the job down and enjoys her civic duty.
"I enjoy helping constituents solve problems, and enjoy working with others on council and with our incredible city employees,” Singleton said.
Singleton said she is proud council's ability to continually advance the city through promoting small businesses and such.
Singleton has lived in the area most of her adult life and said she loves Hazelwood because it is a true community.
“I am very proud of the vast number of volunteers in our city who serve on boards and commissions, giving countless hours of service to the community," she said.
At her church, Singleton oversees a program for members dealing with crisis situations.
She has a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in counseling.
She has been married to her husband, Dwight, for 26 years. They have two sons and one grandchild.
