Men Attempt to take Hazelwood Police on Chase, End Up Crashing

Hazelwood Police decide intersection is too busy for a chase, but the escapists end up in custody anyway.

What should have been a routine traffic stop for speeding, turned into an interesting series of events for the on March 15.

According to Lt. Ronald Livingston, an officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle heading west on Dunn Road when the car failed to stop and sped through the intersection on Dunn Road at the Lindbergh Interchange.

Bystanders emailed Hazelwood Patch reporting seeing a gold car cut through the intersection at about 50 miles per hour, with an unmarked car trailing behind with sirens wailing.

Livingston said the police officer decided not to chase the vehicle because it was too dangerous of an intersection with heavy traffic, and calls soon after poured into the police department of a car crash on Taylor Road.

“When we went to check out the scene of the accident and it just so happened to be the same car we decided not to chase,” Livingston said. “The driver hit a pole.”

Livingston said all four individuals in the car fled on foot through the and the police ended up catching three of them near Interstate 270.

“The car wasn’t stolen,” Livingston said, “but all three caught were wanted by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.”

All three were arrested and later released to the St. Louis city police. Livingston said the Hazelwood Police Department would seek a warrant to charge the car driver with leaving the scene of an accident. One person got away on foot.
