A Sunday of Serendipity: Parlor to Hold Celebration
The Webster Groves ice cream parlor celebrates National Ice Cream Day with special flavors, prizes and music.

has a lot to celebrate Sunday. Not only is Sunday National Ice Cream Day, but the store also will celebrate its eighth year in business.
In 1984, Ronald Reagan proclaimed the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day and called residents to observe the event with "appropriate ceremonies and activities."
For Serendipity, that means hourly ice cream specials and drawings for ice cream prizesβfor example free cones and pintsβstarting at noon. It also means the parlor will serve adult Mocktails at 6 p.m., which is when live music by Del Mar Blue will kick off.

The Mocktails are ice cream concoctions that are either liquor inspired or have alcohol in them, according to owner Beckie Jacobs. Some examples include an Amaretto peach float in ginerale, an Irish tequila shake and wine-flavored sorbets.
Serendipity also will serve ice cream cupcakes to celebrate it's eighth year in business. Festivities end at 10 p.m.

"We're celebrating ice cream and how good and fun it is," Jacobs said. "It's really hot out, but the ice cream and the music are really cool."
At Webster Groves Community Days, Kirkwood-Webster Groves Patch handed out coupons for a free Serendipity scoop Sunday.
