KHS Athletes Set Sights on College Careers

Kirkwood High School celebrated Pioneers who will continue their athletic careers at the college level.

During a ceremony after school last Wednesday, recognized student athletes for having either verbally committed or signed a National Letter of Intent to participate in inter-collegiate athletics after graduating from KHS. 

Student athletes who signed National Letters of Intent are:

  • Tara Bruns-Maryville University soccer
  • BJ Buckner-Southeast Missouri State football
  • Jahmal Hicks-William Jewel College football
  • Rachel Kibby-Drury University soccer
  • Mike McHugh-Northwestern University football
  • Hannah Richardson-University of Kansas cross-country and track
  • Lucas Sandheinrich-Lindenwood University football

Student athletes who verbally committed are:

  • Jordan Berry-Westminster College volleyball
  • Lauren Bordeaux-Greenville College soccer
  • William Fries-Washington and Lee University swimming
  • Kalah Martin-Webster University basketball
  • Kelli Moran-University of Evansville soccer

KHS principal opened the ceremony congratulating the students on their accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the athletic fields and courts.

“Please remember, you are signing today not only because of your accomplishments on the field or court but what you have demonstrated in the classroom," Havener said. "To receive a scholarship to play the sport you love and also come away with a college diploma is really the best of both worlds."

KHS will hold a ceremony in the spring for those who have not committed or are undecided at this time.
