Kirkwood Board Says No to Mobil Request

The next step for possible development of the Mobil gas station at Manchester and North Geyer roads is uncertain.

Members of Kirkwood’s Board of Adjustment unanimously voted against granting Wallis Companies two variances to Kirkwood's zoning code for the , at their Monday meeting.

“Essentially, anyone who comes before the board needs to demonstrate a hardship of complying with zoning regulations,” said James Meyers, chair of Kirkwood’s Board of Adjustment. “(Wallis Companies) did not really demonstrate a hardship sufficient to board members.”

The variances related to Manchester and Geyer road front yard setback requirements as defined in the city's zoning code.

“We have not determined what we are going to do, but we do want to modernize the facility to better serve our customers, and we’ll continue to work with the community leaders to that end,” said Tracy Hughes, a spokesperson for Wallis Companies. “We’ll see if there’s some way for us to come together to better serve the community of Kirkwood.”

At their meeting, board members also voted against granting a variance to that would decrease existing parking spaces to create additional outdoor patio seating.
