Celebration at Sunset, Par for St. Joseph's Academy

A day of tennis, cards, golf, lunch, auction and dinner, all for a very good cause.

Once again, the St. Joseph's Academy school community closed ranks for another very worthwhile cause.

The annual Celebration at Sunset (Country Club) was held Monday to raise money for the scholarship fund. This money is earmarked for scholarships for any student who loses a basic breadwinner during their four years at school. Two students are presently being provided for under this umbrella.

Think of it as a fund for some rainy days.

One hundred and thirty five golfers teed off, 36 in the morning and 99 after the lunch hour. In the morning 11 women played round robin tennis and 50 women, mostly graduates of the Academy played in spirited card games. A luncheon was held on the veranda and a lavish dinner, with prizes and silent auction capped off the evening.

Many school officials, including President Anita Reznicek and Prinicipal Pat Dunphy presided over the day-long events.

Many graduates of years gone by took part as well as parents of students past and present and members of the faculty and staff too. To the person, this annual event was deemed a very big success.

As Sr. Dunphy pointed out, "This event has grown leaps and bounds over the years."

Included are interviews with Reznicek, Sr. Pat, Mike Distler, chairman for 2011 and a quick look back at the 'great ball drop.'

That prize for the ball drop, half the pot went to Jim Hill.
