Pot Heads, Stockholm Syndrome, Vouchers Instead of Public Schools. Where Does the Craziness End?

Flashback to comments, Facebook postings, etc. this week on Patch.

What a crazy week, that's for sure. The Ladue Prop 1 49-cent tax levy passed by a shade under 500 votes. Those on the inside, on both sides swore it would come down to almost a split decision. The difference was expected to be less than 25 votes, one way or the other. And throughout it all, our good readers had plenty to say on the topic.

Welcome to our first edition of Flashback Friday, where we highlight some of your contributions to Patch both here and on our Facebook page — and speaking of Facebook, if you haven't already liked us there, we'd appreciate it if you would. We're at 218 likes this week. Can you help us get to 230 by next week?

The opponents of Prop 1 failed to make their case this week, though they railed and ranted often right here on the Ladue-Frontenac Patch.  People like Flyoverland and Louis Leffingwell and Creve Coeur Dad espoused their views, early and often.

Here's some samples of the more bizarre comments of the week:

, : To clarify I referred to your children as being "doped up" never did I use the term "pothead". My children are entering the real world with Ivy League degrees in technical sciences and management preparing to join the so-called 1% that run things. So I guess they have dealt with my deficiencies pretty well - thanks for asking.

, : Yes, the board just should have done what Louis wanted, then we could all be happy and sit in a circle, singing "Kumbayah".

And while we're at it, let's talk about the resounding incompetence of Congress, the President, the Supreme Court, talk radio, and cable TV, all dividing our country by not doing what Louis wants. Damn them all.

OMG: The Stockholm Syndrome is now part of the Prop 1 psycho analysis:

, : Dad, the school board admitted it, right here in the patch. The CFO said they scheduled the election in April because not many people inclined to vote no would vote then. How is that a conspiracy theory? Quit being led around by the nose by the schools. Get over your Stockholm Syndrome and find out what is really going on. It won't be in the press releases, you have to work to find it.

The hidden agenda finally came out in the moment of defeat.

, : Yes - a decision to disband the schools and give parents like you a voucher and a choice to send their children the most appropriate school. Would make me and ironically should make you happy as well. It it laughable to think this idea is hateful. Why are you opposed of having a choice?

On Facebook, Fixed Income thinks Patch rigs the vote?

, : You can't possibly be serous. About noon today, it jumped from 100 to over a thousand. How many ISP's came from the school district? Jim, you are embarrassing yourself with this play poll business. Everyone knows all you have to do is erase your cookies and you can vote as many times as you want. Simply amazing. If I cared and didn't have to be up early to work the polls, I would make it 10,000 to 1,000 just to show you. But, everyone knows its a joke. You do know, right?

Editors note: I want to thank Fixed Income for showing me how to "stuff the ballot box." I had no idea about disabling cookies and all that stuff. I thought cookies were just snack foods.
