Field Getting Crowded for Local Athletic, Casual Sportswear

Athleta of the Gap is coming to Plaza Frontenac soon.

Athleta, the women’s athletic wear line from Gap Inc., has completed a deal to open a store at Plaza Frontenac.

Athleta will take over space formerly occupied by Graphic Traffic, a women’s retailer that closed earlier this year. It joins Lululemon, the popular yoga retailer, which has been at the mall since 2010.

In the meantime, Dimvaloo, the popular Australian sportswear Down Under and in California is about to open its doors at the Colonial MarketPlace in Ladue.

The question is, can the region support so many stores selling nearly the same line of clothing, which is also sold in local sports shops, Dick's Sporting Goods
at West County Mall and Sports Authority at various suburban locations including Brentwood, Richmond Heights and Kirkwood.

The St. Louis Business Journal broke the story of Athleta coming to Plaza Frontenac.
